Please read the following information carefully.  It will address most of your questions.

Wood Badge with Family Odyssey is an opportunity for your family to have an excellent Scouting experience while your spouse has a great Wood Badge experience.  It may be challenging at times, but it will likely change your life!

Location and Facilities

Tifie Scout Camp is a brand new scout camp just outside of Mount Pleasant, Utah, 45 minutes east of Nephi.  It features beautiful, rugged mountain terrain and a heated outdoor pool.  Its campsites, shelters, program cabins and other new facilities will make your stay at Tifie extraordinary.  Tifie has several covered pavilions, flushing toilets and shower facilities.  A large dining hall is under construction as well. The acronym Tifie stands for Teaching Individuals & Families Independence through Entrepreneurship.

Camping

  • Each campsite has a small covered pavilion with a picnic table on a concrete floor.  Plan to share your campsite with at least one other family.
  • There is also limited space for trailers.  Trailer sites must be reserved at registration.  FULL-SIZE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE TRUCKS ARE REQUIRED TO PULL TRAILERS UP THE MOUNTAIN.  You won't make it up to camp without one, especially if it rains.  There are NO trailer hook-ups or power.  Trailer sites are farther to walk to than the campsites.

Meals and Family Activities

  • All meals are provided from Monday breakfast through Saturday lunch.
  • Families eat together for all but two meals.  Wood Badge participants eat separately for Monday lunch and Friday dinner.
  • Wednesday evening is family activity night.  Camp Tifie's program areas (archery, shooting sports, pool, etc.) will be open for families to enjoy together.

Wood Badge

  • One parent participates in Wood Badge full-time.  Another adult family member needs to be available in camp in case your child gets sick or has an emergency.
  • Wood Badge participants attend training from 8:00 am until about 9:30 pm each day and will not be available during those times, except for meals.
  • Friday evening, the Wood Badge participants have an overnight experience and will not camp with their families.

Youth Leadership Training

  • Youth leadership training runs Monday through Saturday.  Participants will not see their families during the entire week.
  • Timberline is National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) for 12-13 year-old boy scouts.
  • All-Stars is a leadership program for 14-15 year-old Varsity scouts.
  • Kodiak is a high adventure leadership course for 16-18 year-olds.  It is a coed Venturing program.

Daily Family Programs

  • Programs for spouses and children are conducted by Family Odyssey's volunteer staff.
  • Family members will be assigned to age groups.  The actual age group divisions will depend on the number of Family Odyssey participants.
  • Programs operate from Monday afternoon through Friday afternoon.
  • Age group activities run from 8:30 to 11:30 am, and 1:15 to 4:30 pm.  Parents are responsible for their children at ALL OTHER TIMES.
  • Evening family activities will be available.  Wood Badge participants will not attend these activities, except on Wednesday.

Age Group Activities

  • Nursery - 18 months to 3 year-olds: Toys, story time, small activities, snacks and naptime.
  • 3-4 year-olds:  A range of pre-school activities, stories, games and snacks.
  • 5-7 year-olds:  A variety of games, crafts, swimming, Indian lore, and other age-appropriate activities.
  • Girls ages 8 -11: Swimming, shooting, archery, nature, Indian lore, crafts, and other age appropriate activities.
  • Boys ages 8 -11:  Various activities including swimming, shooting, archery, nature, Indian lore, along with some Cub and Boy Scout requirements.
  • 12-18 year olds:  Swimming, shooting, archery, off-site excursions, crafts and other activities.
  • Spouses:  May participate in swimming, shooting, archery, off-site excursions, crafts and other activities.  If you choose to go on an off-site excursion, you will need to coordinate care for your children with other participants.  For this reason, most off-site excursions will be offered more than one time.
