Online Training (MyScouting)

This page provides additional information on the MyScouting online account on the BSA National Council's site.  If you have an existing MyScouting account,  click here to access the login page. If you don't have a MyScouting account, read on for information on how to set one up.

What is MyScouting

Over the past few years, the Boy Scouts of America has been developing an online account service called MyScouting. There are a number of great new features that have either recently been added or soon will be. Here is a quick overview of what you can now do with a MyScouting account:

  • Fast start training
  • Youth protection training
  • This is Scouting training (replaces New Leader's Essentials)
  • Safe swim defense training
  • Safety afloat training
  • Weather hazard training (new training required for getting a tour permit)
  • Recording commissioner visits
  • and more...

The best part of MyScouting is that it is tied to your membership account. So when you complete courses it automatically updates your training records. How cool is that?

Creating a MyScouting account

Go to At the top of the page, there is a link that says “MyScouting”.

This link takes you to a login page for your MyScouting account. If you don’t yet have an account, click on the “click here to create a new account” link. You will be asked to provide the name of the council (Utah National Parks Council – 591) and your membership ID number. The membership ID number can be found in several different ways:

  1. It’s the number on the bottom of your membership ID card.
  2. You can ask your unit’s online advancement person to look up your number for you – it prints on the unit roster on the internet advancement reports system.

Besides the benefits of completing online training courses through MyScouting, the new online tour permit feature is really neat. Basically you can store vehicle information and leader training information ahead of time for any unit that you are a registered member of. Then when it is time to fill out the tour permit you simply go through and select which vehicles and which leaders are going and it automatically fills out all that information on the tour permit. Then you submit it electronically and receive an electronic confirmation that you can print out and take with you on your trip.
