Following are steps you can follow to become fully trained in your scouting position:

  1. Go to the Boy Scouts of America E-Learning page at You should be taken to a page where you can sign in to your MyScouting account.
  2. If you don't have a MyScouting account, click the link under New to MyScouting? To create an account, you'll need your membership ID number, which you can get from your BSA membership card or by calling the scout office at 801-437-6222 and asking for it. After you have created an account, you should be returned to the sign in page. If not, use the link above to return to it.
  3. Enter your User name and Password and click Sign In. You should be taken to the E-Learning Course Management System.
  4. Choose the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, or Venturing tab (or the General tab if you are a unit commissioner) and complete the Fast Start training course, which should take between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on how quickly you move through it. There isn't a separate Fast Start training course for Varsity Scouts on this page, but you can find Varsity Scout Fast Start training by going to the council website (, choosing Training in the menu bar across the top of the home page, choosing Fast Start Training in the menu on the left, and then choosing Varsity Fast Start.
  5. Go to the General tab and complete the This is Scouting course, which will take about 45 minutes (you may want to do these on separate days for sanity's sake).
  6. Complete the Youth Protection Training course, also at the General tab (or, if you're a Venturing leader, go to the Venturing tab). The course will take approximately 45 minutes.
  7. Attend the basic training session specific to your area of responsibility. Leader-specific training is held monthly at the council office. Click the Click here to Register link to obtain specific information about the location, start time, and duration of the training sessions before you sign up.
