Leave No Trace

The Leave No Trace courses are designed to give participants a thorough understanding of the concepts and practices involved to minimize impacts in the outdoors, as well as Scouting America policies concerning outdoor activities. The courses are also designed to give participants the tools they need to teach others how to effectively practice and understand Leave No Trace.

What is involved in the Outdoor Ethics Guide Training course?

This is a free course designed to give youth serving as their troop's Outdoor Ethics Guide the tools and knowledge they need to be successful in this position. It is also designed to help their adult advisers know how to support youth serving in this role better and help their troop minimize their impacts on the outdoors.

Who should become a Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor?

The Level 1 Instructor course is a virtual or online 16-hour course that will give you the knowledge and skills needed to minimize your impact on the outdoors and lead by example. Participants will become certified Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructors upon completion of the course. This is an internationally recognized certification and is for Scouts and Scouters age 18 and up.

Who should take the Leave No Trace Skills course?

The Leave No Trace Skills Course is a 16-hour hands-on course designed to give participants working knowledge of and the confidence to practice Leave No Trace in real-life outdoor situations. The course is very similar to the Leave No Trace Level I Certification course but does not include the teaching components of that course and does not result in a certification. It is open to all Scouts BSA-aged youth and adults and should be taken by anyone wanting to learn how to practice Leave No Trace in the outdoors. Cost is $40 per youth and adult to cover food and supplies.
