INTRO TO OUTDOOR LEADER SKILLS

IOLS.png

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) is the core outdoor training for adult leaders in Scouts BSA. It builds on what you learn in position-specific training and focuses on the practical skills you need to lead Scouts in the outdoors. This is a hands-on course where you practice the same skills Scouts learn, giving you real experience and confidence.

Throughout the course, you’ll work as part of a patrol and experience the Scout-led model in action. You’ll learn essential outdoor skills like camping, cooking, first aid, knots and lashings, hiking, and more. Just as important, you’ll see how these skills are taught using the patrol method, interactive activities, and engaging instruction techniques that make Scouting effective.
